Tracy McGrady recently expressed his concerns on Instagram about Team USA’s prospects for the 2028 Olympics, warning that the American team might face serious challenges in maintaining its dominance on the global stage. According to McGrady, the next generation of American talent may not be enough to secure the gold medal, especially with the looming retirements of legends like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant.

"USA is in trouble next Olympics. I'm afraid that gold might be going somewhere else. I love Ant-Man's game. Who knows what Jayson Tatum is gonna do. So what Americans coming up?

"Paolo Banchero might be a guy that we could throw in there cause he's a young up and coming player. Cooper Flagg may be a guy, he'll probably be in his third, enter in his fourth year. Like I'm looking for guys that are on Steph Curry and KD and Bron's level. And I don't see that coming up."

"We might struggle in the next Olympics. I think Canada has a great chance. I think France has a, obviously they have a great chance because they have Wemby over there, they produce great talent over there. Like you just don't know what some of these other countries and what they're producing."

He highlighted that while players like Anthony Edwards , who had a strong showing in the 2024 Olympics, and Jayson Tatum are promising, the current crop of young talent may not match the level of past American superstars. McGrady mentioned Paolo Banchero and Cooper Flagg as potential future stars, but he expressed doubts about whether they could reach the heights of LeBron, Curry, or Durant.

Tracy McGrady also pointed out that other nations are rapidly improving. With these emerging international stars, Team USA might face its toughest competition yet in 2028.

The 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles are particularly significant, as the pressure will be immense for Team USA to perform well on home soil. A loss would be more than just a disappointment—it would be a national embarrassment. Jaylen Brown, who was absent from the 2024 squad, will likely need to step up, along with others, to ensure that the team remains competitive.

While there’s still time for new stars to emerge, McGrady’s concerns highlight the uncertainty surrounding the future of American basketball on the world stage. The next four years will be crucial in developing a team that can continue the legacy of past Olympic champions and avoid the humiliation of losing at home.

Anthony Edwards Has To Be That Guy

Anthony Edwards has shown flashes of brilliance that suggest he could be the future leader of Team USA. While Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are established stars and veterans, Edwards has the potential to be the focal point moving forward. His explosive athleticism, scoring ability, and tenacity on both ends of the floor make him a unique talent who could carry the mantle for the next generation.

The absence of Ja Morant from this year’s roster, due to off-court issues and injuries, has opened the door for Edwards to step into a larger role. While Morant’s eventual return will be welcomed, it’s Edwards who needs to take the charge right now. To solidify his place as the leader of Team USA, Edwards will need to continue developing his game, especially by going on deep playoff runs and performing at an MVP level during the regular season.

Edwards has already shown that he wants to be great, and his hunger for success is evident. The 2024 Olympics gave him a taste of what it’s like to compete on the international stage, and now it’s up to him to build on that experience.

If Edwards can elevate his game and take on the leadership role that Team USA needs, he could be the key to maintaining the country’s dominance in international basketball for years to come. The future of Team USA might very well rest on his shoulders, and he seems ready to embrace that challenge.
