Carmelo Anthony revealed how his first interaction with legendary rapper Lil Wayne on his '7 PM in Brooklyn' podcast. Melo noted that despite him not being a big name at the time, Wayne showed him a lot of love and respect, and was very welcoming to him. He added that Wayne earned his eternal respect and love that day.

"I remember [Lil] Wayne. We won the national championship. I go to Miami, like my first vacation. And we're walking. Mind you, this entourage of his with 20-30 people. Wayne gets out of the car and starts yelling. I'm like 'Yo, nah that ain't Lil Wayne'. (He said) 'Yo, I'm a big fan'."

"From that moment, no matter what, that's somebody that I will always like really f**k with and really rock with. Because of the fact that I'm coming out here, so green in Miami."

"And somebody like that who has already been established...  A day ago, I was just listening to this guy. My point is, if we get validated by people in those industries and they welcome you, you remember that. And the ones that don't welcome you, you remember that even more."

Wayne is a massive basketball fan, so for him to know who Carmelo Anthony was coming off of Syracuse's historic NCAA championship win in 2003 is not surprising, especially when one considers that the NCAA championship game took place in Wayne's hometown of New Orleans.

Lil Wayne has often been spotted at basketball games during the NBA season, having interactions with several players. A few years ago, he had a bit of a contentious dynamic with Mavericks' star Luka Doncic. But the two resolved their issues, and Wayne walked back his negative comments about Doncic.

Lil Wayne Shows Support To Pelicans' Newest Star

Recently, Lil Wayne linked up with Dejounte Murray , the Pelicans ' new star point guard. Murray gifted Wayne a jersey with his name on it as a token of his support and appreciation.

Considering Wayne is a massive Pelicans fan because they are his hometown team, this gift would have meant a lot to him. Wayne will be hoping that the Pelicans are finally able to realize their potential and make a deep run in the NBA playoffs next season.

Recently, Wayne was at the center of some controversy, as Kendrick Lamar was named as the Super Bowl halftime show performer. Wayne spoke about how upset he was at not getting the opportunity to perform in the prestigious slot.

The Super Bowl takes place in the Mercedes Benz Superdome, which is in Wayne's hometown of New Orleans. Many felt considering the setting, that Wayne should have been given the honor of performing the halftime show. While the Super Bowl snub will undoubtedly hurt, perhaps a Pelicans championship win could alleviate some of that pain.
