NBA legend Tracy McGrady posted the workout he used to follow ahead of every NBA training camp on his Instagram recently. In the video he shared, he took fans through what his days would look like for about four weeks before training camp started, and how he would structure his workouts to get in the best shape possible.

“So a lot of you guys been asking about my workout plan when I was getting ready for an NBA season. My day would typically look like this for about four weeks. I’m going to the track at 5 AM, getting my track work in my in, my stadiums in. So I’m out at the track for about an hour and a half."

"Get home, I go to have breakfast. I had a chef so my meal was already prepared for me when I got home. Then after that, I’m going to take a nap because this is a full day of training. I liked to come into training camp in the best possible shape that I could come in."

"I take my nap at 8:30 because I know at noon I am going to the court/gym for skill work or weight training, it could really flip flop. I can go do my weights at 12:30, or I could go to the gym and get my skill work in… Takes place for about two hours."

"Go home, grab me some lunch, relax for a few hours, then my last workout is at like 7:30 at night, where if I did my skill work, so now I’m going to get my weights in, get stronger."

"That really is the end of my day. Of course, I have dinner later on at night after my weight workout. This, for about four weeks, this was my workout every single day. I’d have a rest day in between and then get back into it.”

McGrady really showed fans how hard he worked to make sure that he was in the best shape possible coming into a new season.

The amount of work and preparation he put into his regimen to ensure that he would be ready for training camp and the subsequently grueling NBA schedule goes to show just what it takes to thrive at the highest level in the NBA.

Tracy McGrady's Hard Work Paid Off

Tracy McGrady reaped the rewards of his hard work in his NBA career. McGrady was already a gifted talent when he entered the NBA. But as the old adage goes, hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard enough. And McGrady made sure that he always worked as hard as possible.

McGrady rose to prominence with the Raptors, playing alongside his cousin and fellow All-Star Vince Carter. After his time with the Raptors, he joined the Orlando Magic, where he truly shined as a star player. After four great years with the Magic, McGrady spent the majority of his career with the Houston Rockets.

McGrady's career after his stint with the Rockets was quite short, as he bounced around from teams inside and outside the NBA, such as the Knicks, Pistons, Hawks, Quingdao Eagles, and the Spurs.

McGrady is considered by many to be one of the greatest scorers of all time. During his career, he won two NBA scoring titles, along with making 7 All-Star and All-NBA teams, and even winning a Most Improved Player award in 2001.

While McGrady was a great scorer, he rarely found success in the NBA playoffs. In fact, outside of his final season in the NBA with the Spurs, McGrady never successfully made out of the first round of the NBA playoffs in his career.

Despite his lack of playoff success, there is no denying just how great a scorer McGrady was. His ability to put points on the board for his team was about the best of anyone in the NBA during his time, and many of today's players have cited him as an inspiration.
