It was 12 years ago, that Derrick Rose unintentionally gave us one of the most memorable moments to remember him by, as he refused to dance alongside LeBron James and Dwight Howard during All-Star game introductions. Now after officially announcing his retirement, Rose decided it was time to show off his dance moves.

It's great to see Rose in such good spirits now after retirement. He also seems to have loosened up a bit. As for why the 2011 MVP didn't dance all those years ago, he had given his reasons after that 2012 All-Star Game.
"I can dance," Rose said . "But there's a time and place for that and I don't think it was right then and there."
Rose also stated he wasn't bothered by any criticism that was coming his way for not dancing.
"I don't care," Rose stated. "You just know that's me, man. If you would have saw me out there dancing, you would have been looking at me different. I'm just me. I can't be anybody else. I think that's what people see."
Rose was certainly being himself there. He had never been a boisterous character and I'd say people would have been shocked if he had danced. Rose just wasn't someone who showed a lot of emotion, and he didn't care much about All-Star games either.
Rose ended up playing by far the fewest minutes of any East starter in 2012, as he was only on the court for just over 18 minutes. He finished the night with 14 points, 1 rebound, and 3 assists as the East lost 152-149 to the West.
No one including Rose knew it back then, but this would be the last time he played in the All-Star game. He tore his ACL in his left knee in Game 1 of the first-round series between the Chicago Bulls and the Philadelphia 76ers in 2012 and was never the same after that.
Rose missed the whole of the 2012-13 season due to the injury and when he finally did return the following season, he suffered another crushing blow. The guard tore his meniscus in his right knee and was ruled out for the rest of the season after playing just 10 games.
The injury nightmare just never seemed to end when it came to Rose and it's a shame we never quite got to see him at his absolute best. It speaks to his perseverance, though, that he ended up playing 15 seasons in the NBA. Many would have given up long before and he has walked away from the game with his head held high.
As for what lies ahead for the youngest MVP in NBA history, Rose released this statement on his retirement.
"The next chapter is about chasing my dreams and sharing my growth. I believe true success comes from becoming who you were created to be, and I want to show the world who I am beyond basketball. Whether good or bad, everyone has a 'What if' story in their life. Even if I could, I wouldn't change anything in mine, because it's what helped me find real joy."
It will be very interesting to see what Rose has in store for all of us. I hope he ends up being a bit more fortunate post-retirement than he was during his career.
