Arizona Women’s Cross Country Earns Second Place at Season Opener
In the season opener at the NMSU Lori Fitzgerald Open, the Arizona Women’s Cross Country team secured a commendable second-place finish, while the Men’s team placed third. The standout for the women's team was triathlete Molly Lakustiak, who recorded a fifth-place finish in the 5k with a time of 17:59.02. For the men, newcomer Gideon Mengich led the Wildcats, finishing 10th in the 5k with a time of 14:54.90. Both teams will aim to improve their standings at the upcoming Cougar Classic on September 13 in Colfax, Washington.

Former inmate finds new life after release thanks to P.A.W.S. Program
Shawn Merl works six days a week as a caretaker, trainer, and dog walker for Action Programs for Animals in Las Cruces. Shawn went to work there after he was released from the Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility in July, after serving nearly a twelve-year sentence. Five years ago while still incarcerated, Shawn became involved with the P.A.W.S. prison program.
