( KRON ) — Police in Fairfield are looking for two men who were caught on camera placing a skimming device on a gas pump on Saturday. The skimmer, according to police, was placed on the pump at a local business at around 2:55 p.m.

Only two customers used the pump before the device was removed, the Fairfield Police Department said. Pumps at the business are checked multiple times a day to prevent these types of incidents, police said.

Skimming devices, commonly known as “skimmers,” are used to capture card data and are commonly found on gas station pumps and convenience store ATMs, police said. Such devices can also be found on bank and credit union ATMs.

Skimmers, which capture data from ATM card magnetic strips, are often accompanied by small, hidden cameras that capture victims entering their PIN numbers. The cameras are often concealed to look like part of the ATM.

Anyone who recognizes the two men seen in the photos planting the skimmer is asked to contact the Fairfield Police Department.
