(KRON) — Quick thinking and action likely saved a woman’s life after she was found without a pulse at the bottom of a pool in Fairfield, authorities said.

The Fairfield Police Department was dispatched on Thursday night to a pool on Alaska Avenue regarding a possible drowning victim.

“When officers arrived, a man had already pulled a 45-year-old woman from the bottom of a pool and CPR was in progress by another woman who had seen the events unfold. The woman, who had been submerged in the water for at least five minutes, had no pulse,” FPD wrote.

FDP officers Mojica, Kennedy, and Penate took over CPR as a team, rotating who was performing CPR until firefighter paramedics arrived. Paramedics were eventually able to gain a pulse and the woman was rushed at a hospital.

Later at the hospital, medical staff said quick actions by witnesses and police officers “very likely saved the victim's life,” the police department wrote. “We applaud the quick-thinking teamwork by the witnesses, our officers, and Fairfield Fire Department.”
