    Landon Salinas brought home the title of the 242 Division 3 State Champion from the 2024 State Powerlifting Meet held in Abilene on Friday, March 22.

    Salinas had a squat of 700 pounds, bench of 500 pounds, and deadlift of 525 pounds for a total of 1,725 pounds. He won the title by defeating Santa Gertrudis Academy’s Jordan De La Rosa by five pounds.

    “All of our boys competed awesome. They all had their best total of the year,” Coach Kevin Childers said. “The competition was incredible, but Landon stayed the course all day and was very coachable and aggressive with his lifts. He did an awesome job.”

    Overall out of 104 schools, Fairfield placed 13th overall. Also competing at the state meet were Jose Gutierrez, Eli Castillo, Collin Glass, and Brady Williams.

    In the 114 division, Gutierrez placed seventh overall with a squat of 400 pounds, bench press of 190 pounds, and deadlift of 360 pounds.

    Castillo placed 14th overall in the 132 class with a squat of 405 pounds, bench press of 285 pounds, and deadlift of 440 pounds. He also received a $1,250 scholarship from the THSPA.

    In the 165 division, Glass placed 19th overall with a squat of 465 pounds, bench press of 320 pounds, and deadlift of 475 pounds.

    Williams grabbed eighth place overall in the 275 class with a squat of 675 pounds, bench press of 490 pounds, and deadlift og 500 pounds.

    River Bonds was named to the All-State Elite Team for Academics as Dio Azuara received All-State First Team Academic honors.
