The Fairfield Eagles traveled to Bullard on Thursday, Aug. 22, to take on the Panthers in their final scrimmage before their season opener this Friday, Aug. 30, at the Maypearl Panthers.

“I felt like we got better in our scrimmage against Bullard on Thursday,” Head Coach John Bachtel said. “Our kids played extremely hard. We scored three touchdowns and didn’t allow Bullard to get past the 50 yard line the entire scrimmage.”

Bachtel noted that the defense played very well.

“Bullard runs option football which we do not see much anymore,” Bachtel said. “Your defense has to play assignment football. I felt like we did very well reading our keys and running to the football.”

Fairfield’s offense, which threw the ball well against Athens, ran the ball well against Bullard. Davonte Alexander, Jaylon Shed, and Darion Weatherall each scored a touchdown for the Eagles.

“We will have to control the line of scrimmage in this game. Maypearl has been really throwing the football all over the field. They run a 3-4 defense which is what Athens ran against us,” Bachtel said.
