    The Wortham softball team steamrolled Coolidge and Avalon in its first two District 14-2A games, both at Wortham.

    The Lady Bulldogs, who raised their overall record to 6-8, hammered Avalon, 31-6, on Monday, March 11, after steamrolling Coolidge, 22-1, on Friday, March 8.

    The Avalon game was stopped after two and a half innings and the Coolidge game was stopped after three innings, both due to the 15-run mercy rule.

    Against Coolidge, Wortham scored 16 runs in the first inning and added five in the second and one in the third.

    Katelyn Spain picked up the win with three innings of two-hit ball. She surrendered an unearned run and struck out eight.

    Dakota Butler had a triple and a home run, knocked in four runs and scored two for Wortham.

    Dallas Hoag, Megan Cryer and Spain each had three hits for Wortham. Hoag had a double, scored three runs and drove in three runs. Spain had a double and knocked in four runs. Cryer drove in three runs and scored twice.

    The Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to play Dawson on Tuesday, March 12. They will return to action Tuesday, March 19, when they host Hubbard in a district contest at 4:30 p.m.

    WORTHAM 31, AVALON 6

    Wortham had nine hits and took advantage of 16 walks and eight batters hit by pitch in rolling to the win.

    Hoag and Spain had doubles for Wortham. Cryer was 2-for-2 with three runs batted in and two runs scored.

    Madison Newhouse had a hit, knocked in three runs and scored twice. Spain and Johanna Contreras each knocked in three runs.

    Haylee Shivers scored four runs and had two RBI. Addison Erler scored three runs and had two RBI. Butler and Makayla Hogan each scored three runs and had one RBI.

    Spain pitched two innings to get the victory. She allowed two hits and six runs, none of which were earned. She struck out four and did not walk a batter. Gracie Winstead pitched a scoreless third inning. She allowed one hit and struck out two.
