Two teams and two individuals from the Bi-Stone Region are headed to the Region III-Class 3A golf tournament after finishing as either a second-place team or top two non-qualifying team individual.

The Fairfield boys and girls teams, Groesbeck’s Johnny Howard and Teague’s Grayson Dancer each earned their region tournament berths in the final round of the District 20-3A Tournament Monday at Tri-County Golf Club in Teague. The Region III3A Tournament will take place in Brenham with the boys tournament taking place April 15-16 and the girls April 17-18.

The district tournament was a two-day event which started on March 26. Franklin won both team titles, while Fairfield girls and Fairfield I boys each took second.

After the opening round on the boys side, Dancer and Howard were tied for the lead at 74 apiece with Ryan Tucker of Franklin one stroke behind at 75. Tucker and his teammates, however, led the opening round with a score of 341, while Fairfield I, Groesbeck and Teague had scores of 357, 362 and 369, respectively.

On the girls side, Franklin led after the opening day with a score of 425, while Fairfield and Buffalo I had scores of 445 and 461, respectively. Allie Hughes of Fairfield shot an 83 to take the lead - 10 strokes ahead of second-place Railyn Youree (93).

In the final round on Monday, it was much of the same for the team standings. Franklin (425-432=857), Fairfield (445-428=873) and Buffalo I (461-435=896) stayed 1-2-3 in the girls standings, while Franklin (341-349=690) and Fairfield I (357-353=710) stayed 1-2 in the boys standings.

The biggest change on the boys side was the individual leaderboard. Tucker finished as the individual champion (7475=149), while Howard (74-76=150) and Dancer (74-83=157) finished second and third, respectively.

Both Howard and Dancer qualified as individual medalists since Tucker was on a regional- qualifying team.

The individual leaderboard on the girls side remained the same. Hughes (83-88=171), Youree (93-95=188) and Elkhart’s Cyndi Boyd (100-98=198) finished both rounds 1-2-3, while Lilly Reinhardt of Franklin (101-105=206) and Emilee Bowdoin of Buffalo I (111-98=209) finishing 4-5.

Because Hughes, Youree and Reinhardt were on qualifying teams, Boyd and Bowdoin qualified as individual medalists. In addition to Hughes, Zada Pjetrovic, Addison Shipley, Hadassah Owen and Cariss Capps will represent the Lady Eagles in Brenham in two weeks.

Representing Fairfield on the boys side will be Cade Nelson, Brayden Thornburg, Dio Azuara, Jake White and Chandler Phillips. Fairfield II, who finished fifth (398410=808) was represented by Cameron Cargill, Laiken Carlson, Mason Edwards, Tracy Johnson and Eli Owen.

In addition to Howard, Cade Carroll, Jack Carroll, Cade Duncan and Ethan Walker also competed for fourthplace Groesbeck (362372=734). Dancer was joined by Blaine Black, Isai Diaz, Landon Evans and Brolen White on Teague’s third-place team (369-360=729).

Mexia fielded a team that finished sixth (419409=828). The Blackcats were represented by Jesus Jimenez, Noah Reyes, Boyd Sterling, Brody Sterling and Austin Williford.

Teague’s girls team finished fourth (516502=1,018).

The Lady Lions were represented by Gabby Diaz, Karlee Ingram, Laynee Morrow, Megan Shaw and Bryleigh Whittington.

Groesbeck’s girls team was fifth (510510=1,020).

The Lady Goats were represented by Charley Agnew, Emily Hatcher, Caroline Mathis, Rainy Samuels and Kaleigh Wolf.
