CCC SuperSale to take place Saturday

The Community Care Club, a charitable organization whose members live on the south side of Richland Chambers Lake, is putting together another one of its “garage sales on steroids.”

It all happens on Saturday, April 27th, at the Southern Oaks Volunteer Fire Station, plus this year it spills over into a second location for the first time: the Southern Oaks Clubhouse, across the street from the fire station.

“So many items were donated to the 2023 SuperSale that our tables were piled high with stuff,” said Mary Schutz, one of the coordinators. “We’re moving some of the categories of items over to the Clubhouse, which will give customers more space to shop without feeling so crowded. So you can spend lots of time shopping and keep your energy level up, there will also be a food booth selling hot dog lunches with chips and a drink for only $5.”

An additional change this year is that credit and debit cards will be accepted. “You won’t have to carry a wad of cash when you come,” said Chris Grimes, CCC’s Treasurer, who also serves on the SuperSale coordination committee. “There will, however, be a $5 minimum purchase to use credit cards.”

Proceeds from this extravaganza of a garage sale go to CCC’s many charitable activities for folks in need who live on the south side of RC Lake, plus such things as gifts to residents of the two nursing homes in Fairfield. Several children’s programs— such as C.A.S.A. and Child Protective Services—receive gifts from CCC.

Several benevolent programs in the FM 416 area are gifted with cash as well: including food-based assistance, “good Samaritan” programs, and labor and materials for wheelchair ramps, plus equipment and projects of the local volunteer fire department. As an example, the recent construction of a helicopter pad for medical emergency flights was made possible in part by CCC funds.

In addition, scholarships are awarded annually to eligible students from the FM 416 area, either graduating seniors or students who are continuing their studies at a post-secondary educational institution.

Set for Saturday, April 27, the SuperSale opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 2 p.m., with items going to half price beginning at 1 p.m. Donation Drop-off Day is Friday, April 26, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The address for the Fire Station, one of the locations of the sale, is 120 Southern Oaks Drive, Streetman, just off FM 416 north of the closed Shell station. The Southern Oaks Clubhouse is located just across Southern Oaks Drive from the Fire Station.

“They say that things are bigger in Texas and this sale certainly exemplifies that statement,” said Ms. Schutz. “Of course, there would be no sale without your donations. Items that sell well include furniture, large and small appliances, home décor, kitchen items, holiday decorations, linens, toys and other items for kids, craft materials, working electronics, tools of all kinds, pet items, vintage items, lawn and garden equipment— even vehicles, such as autos or tractors. Additionally, workshop equipment usually brings a good price. And, since this is a lake community, boating and fishing items draw lots of shoppers as well. Of course, we’ll always accept cash if you don’t have any treasures you need to move!”

Please DO NOT bring broken or non-functioning electronics, old-style televisions, clothing, books, CDs, tires, or VHS tapes.

So that purchasers can easily get their treasures to their cars, this year’s SuperSale event will have “people movers,” utility vehicles and golf carts that will carry your items—and you—to and from your car.
