    CRUNCH TIME

Time is fun when you’re having flies.

Yes, I said that out of order. The saying is actually, “time flies when you’re having fun.”

Over the last year, I’ve had a lot of fun. In fact, there are times when I have so much fun that I unintentionally say things in reverse order like the opening statement of this column.

It was a year ago today - July 11, 2023 - that Isabella Marie Chlapek entered the world at 12:17 a.m. Today, she celebrates her first birthday, albeit we’ve already had one party for her.

Bella’s first year of life has indeed been fun. She’s accomplished so much.

In her first year of life, Bella survived her first two high school football games; conducted a few “interviews” for this publication; and survived a few noisy gymnasiums during volleyball or basketball contests. And this is just her professional life.

Personally, Bella loves her older brother, Toby, and older sister, Megan. They know how to make her laugh.

Bella has made friends at various places around the area, including FUMC Fairfield, Sam’s, Ponte’s and Chamber of Commerce events.

She has even “helped” FUMC Pastor Mike McVey during Bible study or sermons.

Thanks, Pastor Mike, for allowing Bella to assist you. I just hope the rest of the congregation or Bible study group understands the phrase, “a na na na na na.”

For that matter, I hope the people she interviewed understood what she was asking when she said that. Of course, it’s difficult to be frustrated with someone who’s only words of wisdom are, “a na na na na na.”

Bella also have interests that are similar to her siblings and parents. She’ll watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse with Toby, Cocomelon with Megan, CSI Miami or Criminal Minds with Mommy, and Chicago PD or the Kansas City Chiefs with Da-Da.

One of the biggest mysteries about this girl is she apparently thinks that Toby and Da-Da are the singers of the song, “We Will Rock You,” and Queen is just a cover band. Bella smiles when Toby and I sing the song, but looks confused when Queen sings it.

Happy Birthday, Bella. We love you and can’t wait to watch you grow up.

Let’s keep having fun, not flies.
