FAIRHOPE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — A new water line in Fairhope is expected to upgrade the city’s water capacity by almost 2 million gallons, according to city officials.

The 24-inch water line, which runs along County Road 33 and Fairhope Avenue, is the first of two water lines being installed.

According to city officials, the water department is also putting in a line at Fly Creek, which will increase water flow to Rock Creek and areas north of it.

In June 2022, the city of Fairhope asked residents to cut back on their water usage due to water towers not having time to replenish the amount of water being used. Water issues continued in Fairhope through August 2023, when city officials declared a water emergency and moved into a three-phase plan to conserve water.

According to a city Facebook post , the city is continuing to put millions of dollars towards water and sewer-related projects.
