$7.5 Million Granted For BFM Development
The Mobile Airport Authority (MAA) has announced that it has been awarded $7,510,599 through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Airport Infrastructure Grant program. These funds will directly support the ongoing development of the new terminal at Mobile International Airport in Mobile. “This grant reinforces our commitment to building a state-of-the-art terminal at Mobile International Airport,” said Chris Curry, MAA president. ”The new terminal is key to accommodating future growth and driving economic development in the region. We’re excited about our partnership with [the Federal Aviation Administration] as we continue to work towards the completion of our transformative project.” The investment is part of MAA’s broader strategy to enhance infrastructure, prepare for future demand and support economic growth in Mobile and the surrounding areas.
Mobile Festival To Feature Buffett’s Music
Visit Mobile has announced that the City of Mobile will serve as the destination for Parrot Heads and visitors for the inaugural Son of a Sailor Fest, a tribute and sailor’s salute to Jimmy Buffett and Gulf Coast music, on September 21 in Cathedral Square. The free celebration will be a family friendly street festival and feature a second-line parade, Parrot Head costume contests and musical acts inspired by Buffett and the area’s coastal culture. The headlining act is A1A, the official Buffett tribute show. There will also be Will Kimbrough, an honorary Coral Reefer, writer and performer featured on every Buffett studio album recorded in the last 20 years. Son of a Sailor Fest began in 2023 as an impromptu celebration of life second-line parade and tribute concert called the Jimmy Buffett Hometown Second Line immediately following Buffett’s death. Updates on VIP packages, additional musical acts and more are forthcoming.

Mobile Infirmary has also earned the American Heart Association’s Get with the Guidelines – Resuscitation Gold Quality Achievement Award for a commitment to treating in-hospital cardiac arrest. Get with the Guidelines is the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s hospital-based quality improvement program. It provides hospitals with the latest research-based guidelines.
