W.Va. Campus Self-Defense Act now in effect
Today (July 1) is the take-effect date across the Mountain State for Senate Bill 10, the W.Va. Campus Self-Defense Act. Passed by the West Virginia Legislature in 2023, the Campus Self-Defense Act allows a person to carry a concealed pistol or revolver on the grounds of an institution of higher education, with some exceptions, if that person has a current and valid license to carry a concealed deadly weapon.

Pike travel nurse indicted in federal crackdown on health care fraud
BECKLEY, W.Va. — A Pike County travel nurse who has been under investigation for the past two years has now been indicted on federal drug charges. Jacqueline Brewster, 54, of Belfry, has been charged in U.S. District Court in Beckley, W.Va., with obtaining controlled substances by fraud, tampering with consumer products, and wrongfully obtaining individually identifiable health information under false pretenses.
