BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WBOY) — Fairmont State University has announced a new addition to its Aviation Center of Excellence’s fleet, a multi-engine trainer 1980 Model Piper Aztec.

Officials with the school said that the new addition to its fleet will help students in its flight school further succeed in their careers by providing them opportunities to log more flight hours, which in turn prepares them for graduation.

“A huge morale boost to all the students because now they have this waiting on them. So, that’s that next great challenge as they finish their commercial license. It’s something else to look forward to, and so having a new plane that’s considered modernized and safe, it’s very exciting,” Assistant Chief Pilot Jeremy Griffin said.

According to Griffin, Fairmont State University is the oldest flight school in West Virginia and is the most productive. As a Part 141 certified flight school, students can graduate with both a commercial license as well as a bachelor’s degree.
