FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Run for Recovery 5K benefiting the Union Rescue Mission was held Saturday morning, encouraging locals to exercise for a cause.

160 people ran or walked to raise money for Union Rescue Mission and its efforts to help those in need, including its recovery program to help people break free of their addictions or “life dominating problems”. The organization also provides meals and housing.

The bullhorn to start the race was blown by Fairmont mayor Anne Bolyard.

Executive Director of the Union Rescue Mission Jeff Benedict said of the recovery program, “We have 24 to 25 people in recovery right now, and they’re in different phases of the program.” He explained that some are moving towards housing while others just entered the program, but that they are all making progress towards recovery.
