    Fairmont professor honored with teaching excellence awards

    FAIRMONT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Fairmont State University has announced that Professor of Information Systems Management, Dr. Rebecca Giorcelli has been honored with multiple awards denoting teaching excellence.

    Bestowed upon educators who have been shown to demonstrate outstanding prowess teaching in their area of expertise, the Teaching Excellence Award for Region 2 is among the honors by which Dr. Giorcelli has been recognized.

    The professor has also been honored with the Best of Regions Excellence Award for Region 2 of the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and programs, also known as the ACBSP, as well as the International Teaching Excellence Award.

    “Being chosen as the ACBSP’s Regional Teaching Excellence Award, International Teaching Excellence Award, and Region 2 Best of Regions Excellence Award recipient is an honor,” said Dr. Giorcelli. “Being an educator is not just a job, it’s a passion. I have continuously strived to keep the CoBA’s undergraduate and graduate curriculum cutting edge, so our students can become skilled and successful professionals.”

    Since joining Fairmont State University nearly 20 years ago, Giorcelli has served with the university as an Assistant Professor, Faculty Advisor for Delta Mu Delter, Information Systems Management Program Coordinator, Associate Professor, Director of Assessment, Professor, Associate Dean, Chair of Marketing and Management Studies, Interim Dean, and International Honor Society in Business.

    Prior to her time at F airmont State University , Giorcelli gained experience in research and development in positions with the Division of Safety Research at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health from 1995 to 2001, and with the Institute for Scientific Research from 2001 to 2005

    Giorcelli has been awarded over $540,000 in grant funding for research from the National Science Foundation, West Virginia Higher Education Policy, and NASA West Virginia Space Grant Consortium. She is also a founding member of the Undergraduate Research Advisory Council and has received multiple awards with regard to teaching excellence and education recognition.
