Country Roads, a country-themed bar and restaurant, has opened in the The Cannery, an entertainment complex in the former home of the American Can Company in the Village of Fairport.

Tim Parinello, who owns BluHorn Tequilaria in Pittsford and Henrietta Hots in Henrietta, is owner. "I really enjoy the experience at Bluehorn and we were looking to do something a bit bigger," he said. Oz Tozan is general manager and David Roderick is chef.

Visitors to the former Smokin' Hot Chicks BBQ will find a familiar casual feel, but the space now has a large central bar and rustic high-top tables.

Colorful murals and paintings by local artist Lorraine Staunch accent the space. There are a couple of electronic dart boards as well as a stage that will be the focus of live entertainment.

The food at Country Roads, geared for sharing, includes classic bar fare like Buffalo chicken tenders, quesadillas, sliders, street tacos, chicken wings and loaded fries.

A crowd-pleasing appetizer is the trash can nachos, the makings of classic nachos piled into a can without a top or bottom. When they are served, the can is pulled up and the contents tumble out onto the tray beneath it.

For libations, there are six margaritas ($12), three of which add spice to the equation. It also offers five variations of Moscow mules ($10). Among the other craft cocktails ($10 to $12) are an Aperol spritz, espresso martini, old fashioned and raspberry lemon drop martini.

Seven beers are offered on draft ($5) and a dozen or so more in bottle ($5); most are large national brands.

Sunday brunch is on the horizon.

The plan is to roll out a regular calendar of entertainment in the near future:

    • Wednesday: Country karaoke and line dancing
    • Thursday and Saturday: Country DJ
    • Friday: Live band beginning at happy hour
