A recreational use health advisory for Fairview Lake, just south of Blue Lake, has been lifted for all humans, meaning its once again safe to swim and enjoy an afternoon by the water.

The Oregon Health Authority first issued a warning on July 18 after water monitoring confirmed the level of cyanotoxins in the lake were at dangerous levels. And while those levels are now safe for people, the saxitoxin levels detected are still above guidelines for dogs, so owners should continue keeping pets away from the lake.

Visitors should remain alert for cyanobacteria blooms, which can continue to develop whenever conditions are favorable. Be wary of areas where water is foamy, scummy, thick like paint, pea-green or blue-green, or if thick brownish-red mats are visible, or bright green clumps are suspended in the water.

When cynaotoxins are present, avoid activities that would cause you to swallow water or inhale droplets. For more information, visit tinyurl.com/yc8yhasm.
