    UPDATE: FRIDAY 7/26/2024 4:04 p.m.

    (FALCON, Colo.) — According to El Paso County , just before 3:50 p.m. on Friday, July 26 the gas leak at the intersection of Meridian and Rex Roads has been fixed and the road has been reopened.

    According to the County, the western section of Rex Road remains closed due to construction, with completion expected by mid-September.

    The Falcon Fire Department (FFD) issued a shelter-in-place in the area of Meridian Road on Friday, July 26.

    The fire department advises the community to stay inside if they are within a half-mile radius of the Meridian Road and Rex Road areas. Roads in the immediate areas are shut down and drivers should avoid the area.

    Individuals may smell natural gas, but FFD said there is no immediate threat and crews are working to mitigate the leak.
