    As we kick off a new week, let's take a look back at the week that was.

    Top stories this past week included:

    The Herald News' All-Scholastic picks for: high school boys' volleyball, high school boys and girls lacrosse, high school girls tennis, and high school boys tennis.

    The Tiverton School Committee voted on a balanced budget that will keep Fort Barton Elementary School open this year and use more than $1 million in one-time funds to call back some of 33 staff members who received layoff notices this spring. Other cuts are planned in order to make this possible.

    "Bloom," a new exhibit featured by the Fall River Arts and Culture Coalition at The Ignition Space, features works by local Portuguese artist Filomena Botelho.

    The latest Greater Fall River real estate report, featuring a custom-built home in Freetown that sold for $830,000.     MBTA spokeswoman: South Coast Rail will have weekend service

    Maya Bingaman, MBTA communications manager, confirmed with The Herald News that South Coast Rail will offer service on weekends.

    What remains unknown, as of this writing, is how often during the weekend that the service will run.

    “Seeing as ... South Coast Rail is an extension of the Middleborough line commuter rail service, on which weekend service is already scheduled and offered, it is not a question of whether weekend service will be provided, but rather at what levels,” said Bingaman.

    Correia shares 'extortion' texts from lawyer, claims poverty; Reddington says fee went up

    Former Fall River mayor Jasiel Correia II, asking a federal court in Boston to reduce his prison sentence, has shown the court about a dozen text messages between himself and his attorney Kevin Reddington that Correia claims prove his allegations of ineffective counsel during his 2021 fraud and corruption trial.

    Correia shared text messages that he claims show Reddington attempting to extort him for $50,000 and a percentage of an app company Correia owned.

    Reddington denies any attorney misconduct.

    The Jitterbug Cafe is swinging into Swansea soon

    There's a new breakfast spot coming to Swansea.

    The site of the One Horse Pizzeria and Saloon, which closed up shop last June, will soon be home to The Jitterbug Cafe.

    Jitterbug owner Linda Farias confirmed that the Route 6 cafe is in the works, and she is busy transforming the Swansea site into a new local go-to spot for breakfast and lunch fare.
