(WWJ) — A Northern Michigan man is facing charges after allegedly attacking a woman and threatening to kill her with an axe.

Michigan State Police troopers from the Cadillac Post got a call around 11:30 p.m. Friday, July 12 from a woman who said she had been assaulted at a home in Aetna Township, about 15 miles south of Big Rapids.

Responding troopers spoke with the woman, who had fled the scene to a local church. She told them she and the suspect — a 52-year-old man from Falmouth — had gotten into an argument that turned violent.

She told police the suspect hit her several times, then retrieved an axe and threatened to kill her, according to MSP.

The woman fled the scene and called 911.

Troopers went to the scene of the incident and could see the suspect sitting on a chair in the living room. Troopers ordered the man to come to the door. He complied and walked towards the door with the axe in his hand.

He eventually complied with commands to drop the axe, according to MSP.

He was arrested and taken to the Missaukee County Jail. Authorities have not released the suspect’s name or what charges he will face.

MSP officials said the woman had visible injuries, but refused treatment from EMS personnel.
