With that being said, strictly resume-wise, CMC is the riskiest top pick in years.Blind resume: we have a 28-year-old running back coming off a 331-carry, 417-total touch season, who has missed 25 games over the past four seasons. Any one of those four factors is a massive running back red flag. To have all four combined is like any story starting with “A Florida Man..”Overall, McCaffrey will top the 2000-career touch barrier by Week Two. Yes, I am counting playoffs, because the 49ers have gone on decent runs in two straight years. More importantly, they plan to go on a run this year. What could that mean? They could limit CMC to save him for January.I get it, he gives you the most upside at the top spot. I do not blame anyone for taking him there. With that said, he still needs to be on the Top 10 riskiest 2024 Fantasy Football picks because of all the previous factors, along with the training camp calf injury.<h2>Puka Nacua, WR, Los Angeles Rams: ADP 14.3, WR8</h2>Puka has become less risky as his ADP plummets. At one point he was in the conversation with the second elite tier of receivers. A knee injury combined with Cooper Kupp looking healthy and fit has dropped Nakua down almost a full round.However, he is still one of the Top 10 riskiest 2024 Fantasy Football picks. Knee injuries like this that are mysterious have the tendency to linger throughout the season. Even worse, the Rams have had offensive line injuries and still have a 36-year-old quarterback with a tattered injury history.Even healthy with a healthy cast, Puka would be risky. He blew up with some massive games last season. Those massive games coincided with Cooper Kupp missing time. In games that Cooper Kupp started and finished, Puka averaged less than 12 half-PPR Fantasy Points per game. That’s more than two full points less than his season total. His yards per game was nearly 20 yards less than games without Kupp.That leaves you with a late-round NFL Draft pick who blew up because one of the previous best receivers in the game missed time, who is already injured heading into the season. That is too risky for me at the top of Round Two.<h2>Kyren Williams, RB, Los Angeles Rams: ADP 15.9, RB7</h2>Mike Davis. Myles Gaskin. Jonas Gray. Chase Edmonds. Kenyan Drake. Cordarrelle Patterson. James Robinson. Phillip Lindsay. Oh how quickly we forget recent history. For every David Johnson or Alvin Kamara, there are dozens of waiver-wire pickups from previous seasons that blow up and can not reproduce anywhere near the same level.The Rams remember. That is why they drafted Blake Corum. Even if Corum is not the answer, I think their investment in him shows that they know Kyren is not at the level he showed last year. It was a necessity rather than a choice when you look at the other options that they had.As I previously mentioned with Puka, the Rams are beat up a little bit already. They were beaten up last year with Cooper Kupp out. If Kupp is healthy, I think that severely tampers Kyren’s upside as well. I will not fall for the Charlie Brown football kick again with one of these guys. Kyren Williams will not be on a single one of my Fantasy Football teams in 2024.<h2>De’Von Achane, RB, Miami Dolphins: ADP 22.3, RB11</h2>Achane had 518 yards and seven touchdowns in a three-game stretch last season. He had 997 yards and 11 touchdowns total. That alone gives me reason for pause.If you go further, it seems like Achane is a bully of games in hand. In games with a final margin of 28 points or more, Achane averaged 30.2 Fantasy Points per game. In all other games, he averaged 6.9 Fantasy Points per game.Achane had three games with 12 or more carries. Those three games had a combined scoring differential of 117 points. Miami sees him as a change-of-pace, low-usage home run threat. Raheem Mostert will still get the majority of carries. Achane is too boom-or-bust for me as a starter at all, let alone a second-round pick.<h2>Drake London, WR, Atlanta Falcons: ADP 24.2, WR11</h2>London has been pushed up to the end of Round Two off of speculation. I do not subscribe to speculation with my first few Fantasy Football draft picks.Drake London has now played 33 games in his NFL career. He has averaged 53.7 yards and a little over four catches per game. That sounds like a solid WR3 or Flex bye-week fill in. That does not sound like a Top-25 pick.I get it, massive quarterback upgrade… or so we think. Kirk Cousins was signed by Atlanta in the off-season. He has been a phenomenal quarterback for wide receivers in Fantasy wide receiver purposes. Kirk Cousins is also a (in three days) 36-year-old quarterback who ruptured his Achilles less than ten months ago. Aaron Rodgers back for the playoff jokes aside, Achilles injuries are worse than ACL tears usually and can take almost a year to recover. They can take two years to get back to full strength.So, to draft London at this spot, we are counting on several factors that give alarm. We are expecting a guy who has scored a career 9.8 PPR Fantasy Points a game to score nearly double at 16.6 points per game (WR11 last season.) Even if he can do that, we are drafting a player at his absolute ceiling, which is another big no-no for me. You are relying on a 36-year-old quarterback less than ten months after an Achilles rupture learning a new offense without proper full-speed practice time. Once again, add up the factors and you find out why Drake London is one of the Top 10 riskiest 2024 Fantasy Football picks.<h2>Michael Pittman Jr., WR, Indianapolis Colts: ADP 37.3, WR18</h2>This one is pretty simple. Do we think Anthony Richardson can stay healthy as well as produce a Top-20 wide receiver? We have a very small sample size with the guy so no one truly knows.This is also a player that I am not down on per se. I am admitting though that he is a risky pick. Some guys are risky because they could get hurt with age. Some are risky because of usage.Pittman is risky to me because you will never take him out of your lineup. In Fantasy Football a bad performer per expectations is worse than a hurt player. There is a decent chance that Pittman will have a roller-coaster-type season. He could have 20+ points some weeks and weeks with less than five.That kind of low-point floor can sink your team. I hope that he has a higher floor, but the risk is definitely there.<h2>Stefon Diggs, WR, Houston Texans: ADP 38.7, WR20</h2>This is an ADP that I truly do not understand. Diggs is a guy who did not have a single game of 90 yards receiving in the last 12 weeks last year. He only scored three touchdowns total in that time frame. He also will be 31 years old by mid-season.Now, Diggs joins an offense with a 25-year-old Nico Collins and 24-year-old Tank Dell. These are two of the most up-and-coming receivers in the league. They also have Dalton Schultz, one of the better receiving tight ends in the league. So where are Diggs’ targets coming from?There were 182 non-Collins/Dell receiver targets last season. Some of the players getting those (Noah Brown) are still in Houston. Both Collins and Dell missed time, nearly ten combined games, so their targets will increase theoretically.I just am not seeing how Diggs gets more than 100 targets. That would leave him with around 60 catches for 800 yards and a few touchdowns. How in the world is that worth a top-of-the-round pick in the fourth? This could really blow up in your face if Diggs has more sideline antics with C.J. Stroud.<h2>Amari Cooper, WR, Cleveland Browns: ADP 54.7, WR25</h2>Last season, Amari Cooper had 15.2% of his catches, 21.2% of his receiving yards, and 40% of his touchdowns in a single game. That single game raised his average receiving yards per game by nearly twenty yards. Can we count on that big of a game to boost his overall numbers again, especially since the quarterback (Joe Flacco) who threw him those passes is gone?Cooper is also 30 years old now with a lot of tread on the tires. He has never missed huge chunks of time, leading to 145 games played and nearly 700 catches in his career.A player over the age of thirty with an overall heavy career workload in a sketchy quarterback situation with 22% of his Fantasy Production coming from a single game last season. That is Amari Cooper. That is a guy I am wary of the risk.<h2>Rhamondre Stevenson, RB, New England Patriots: ADP 59.3, RB19</h2>In three NFL seasons, Rhamondre Stevenson has averaged 50.5, 61.2, and 51.6 rushing yards per game. The little spike in 2022 was so insignificant that it could not happen again. The spike in receiving that year was the kicker.In 2022, Stevenson averaged over four catches per game. In the rest of his career, he has barely averaged two per game. The Patriots signed Antonio Gibson in the offseason, known for his receiving ability since he was a wide receiver in college.Do you know what really makes Stevenson risky, though? The Patriots will be atrocious this year. They just traded away their best defensive player. New England will be starting a developmental, young rookie at quarterback. They have no receivers with skins on the wall. They are breaking in a rookie head coach and front office.The riskiest running back is one on a terrible offense that is not getting the receiving work with a rookie quarterback. You don’t have the be Vince Lombardi to know what the Patriots will be doing on offense. First down, run the ball. Second down, probably run the ball. Third down, play action with a short outlet to a running back, not named Rhamondre Stevenson.I could see a 15-carry per-game average with less than 50 yards and minimal touchdowns and catches. That is too risky for the Zero-RB target range that Stevenson is going.<h2>Zamir White, RB, Las Vegas Raiders: ADP 67.7, RB23</h2>See Williams, Kyren. This is the epitome of the “late-season surge running back that gets over-drafted the next year.” I have long been against this and was only wrong once with David Johnson. White is not David Johnson.This is another unproven back with less total production than Kyren Williams. White does not have a lot of stock put into him by the current regime. He will be in another bad offense like Stevenson. He is a conglomeration of all the risks of the other running backs mentioned. Yes, he is a little cheaper. However, he is still going as an RB2, expected to be a starter in basically all leagues.That is a lot of risk for a starter in your lineup.
