The inmate who died in custody at Cass County Jail has been identified as 37-year-old Alexis Beryl Phillips of Ogema, Minnesota.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office says Phillips died after "experiencing a medical emergency," having been found unresponsive during a wellbeing check just before  11:30 p.m on Wednesday.

Deputies began to provide life saving measures and called in the Fargo Fire Department and Sanford Ambulance to assist. However, the 37-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
