Colorado may be considered a decent favorite in its 2024 season opener against North Dakota State, but second-year head coach Deion Sanders and others are expecting an absolute battle between the Buffs and Bison on Aug. 29.

During his Thursday show on ESPN, Pat McAfee became the latest pundit to warn Colorado about North Dakota State. The former NFL All-Pro punter shared his opinion that many CU fans might be overlooking the Football Championship Subdivision powerhouse:

“I don’t think anybody understands that North Dakota State is the real deal, that’s a real program,” McAfee said. “I think a lot of Colorado fans don’t know that. This is like us watching the (U.S.) men’s basketball team in the Olympics. We’re winning by two? What are we even talking about? Colorado-North Dakota State is going to be a game, a very good game.”

McAfee later said Coach Prime likely isn’t thrilled with NDSU being first on CU’s schedule, which is technically true . Sanders joked during Big 12 media days that he was “mad” at Colorado athletic director Rick George for scheduling the Bison Week 1.
