Faribault girls tennis made it three straight wins Tuesday, as the Falcons knocked off Winona on the road 4-3, sweeping all four singles matches.

The winning effort started off at the top of the lineup with Grace Brazil knocking off Lilyn Walters 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 singles spot. Anika Sterling would pick up Faribault’s second singles win with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 three set thriller over Willa Berger.

At the No. 3 singles position Leah Nawaczewski would win 6-3, 6-3 over Tori Thompson while Whitney Huberty would pick up her latest victory with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 romp of Lori Ebertowski.

The duo of Nell Gibbs and Hana Trnkova would provide the Falcons with the most competitive match in doubles play with a 5-7, 3-6 loss to Velaina Kiesel and Anna Brieco.

“Nell and Hana played a great first set with consistent serving and well hit groundstrokes along with doing well to put pressure on their opponents in most points,” Faribault coach Jeff Anderson said.

The Falcons will travel to Rochester this Saturday to participate in the Big 9 Girls Tennis Tournament. With Rochester Mayo already crowned the Big 9 Team Champion, this tournament is an individual position tournament to determine the best players in the conference at the four singles and three doubles positions.
