Faribault leaned on defense and explosive plays to beat Austin on the road 28-14 Friday night, improving to 3-2 on the year.

Ahead 8-7 at the break, the game was far from decided as the Falcons headed out of the locker room for the second half, but a stout defensive effort led the way for a Faribault program looking to reestablished a physical culture on the field.

That said, a nearly 25-yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter would put Austin ahead 14-8. It took just one play for the Falcons to respond though as a touchdown pass of just over 80 yards hit Nolan Vogelsberg in stride, putting the Falcons ahead 16-14 as he raced past trailing defenders.

A long touchdown run by Jayden Hart in the final seconds of the third quarter only added to the lead, making it 26-14.

It was Faribault's defense that put the finishing touches on the win though, a sack in the end zone for a safety with 4:52 to go giving the game its final score as the Falcons' celebrated on the sidelines knowing that their second road victory of the season was only minutes from becoming official.

Faribault will return home next Friday to face Winona before traveling to take on Byron the following Thursday. A midweek meeting against Glenco-Silver Lake on October 16th will close out the Falcons' regular season slate.
