Returning state champ gets past AV’s Booth in section final; both advance to state

There were several rousing battles in the finals of the Class 3A, Section 2 wrestling tournament, at least one of which could be repeated at the state meet this week.

Farmington senior Cole Han-Lindemyer is 24-0 and a returning state champion, but his path to the Section 2 championship was no cakewalk. Han-Lindemyer, ranked first in Class 3A at 189 pounds, battled Apple Valley’s No. 6-ranked Marcell Booth in the Section 2 final, narrowly winning 3-2. Tenth-ranked Blake Krause of Lakeville North finished third at 189 but was denied a spot in the state tournament after losing to Booth in the semifinals (the top two finishers in each weight class advance to state).

Han-Lindemyer and Booth could be on pace for a rematch in the state tournament semifinals if each wins the first two matches. The state individual tournament starts Friday morning at 9 a.m. at Xcel Energy Center with boys matches in all three enrollment classes.

The state girls tournament starts at 9 a.m. Saturday. At 4 p.m., matches for third and fifth place in all divisions will take place, followed by the championship matches.

Farmington sends five individuals to the state meet, two of whom are ranked first in their weight classes – Han-Lindemyer and sophomore Davis Parrow (139). Parrow is 46-1 after defeating third-ranked Jayden Haueter of Apple Valley 9-1 in the Section 2 final.

Also advancing from Farmington is Han-Lindemyer’s brother Blake, a sophomore who finished second in his section at 121.

Antonio Menard, one of the standout defensive players from Lakeville North’s football team (and a future player for Air Force), went overtime against Brock Zurn of Prior Lake in the Section 2 final at 215, losing 2-1. Menard, ranked third in Class 3A, still advances to state with his second-place finish.

Bo Bokman of Lakeville South won the Section 2 championship at 172 and takes an 18-0 record into the state tourney. Bokman qualified for state the last two years while wrestling for Faribault High School.

Eagan junior Dylan St. Germain, ranked second in Class 3A at 107, won that weight in the Section 3 tournament, pinning all three of his opponents. St. Germain is 40-2; No.-1 ranked Liam Collins (37-1) of Prior Lake is in the other half of the state bracket.

Cassandra Gonzales of Apple Valley takes a 27-0 record into the state girls tournament. She won a state championship wrestling for Shakopee last year and will compete at 136 pounds.

Also returning to state are two local wrestlers who won championships in the inaugural girls state tournament in 2021. Apple Valley’s Grace Alagbo won at 145 two years ago and was second at 153 last year. She will wrestle at 170 in this year’s tourney. Riley Myers of Eastview was state champion at 138 in 2021 and second at 145 last year. This year, she’s in the 130-pound bracket.

Apple Valley’s Hanah Schuster (112), Andrea Quinones (124), Esperanza Calvillo (148) and Gloriann Vigniavo (190) are returning state medalists, as is Rosemount’s Kamdyn Saulter (124).

Following is a list of wrestlers from the Sun Thisweek and Dakota County Tribune coverage area who will be in the state individual tournament, and the records they will be taking into this weekend:
