    Tigers win second SSC girls golf tourney of season

    South’s Ordal, AV’s Johnson co-medalists at Fountain Valley

    Farmington won on home soil Tuesday, taking the team championship in a South Suburban Conference girls golf tournament.

    The Tigers finished six strokes ahead of Eastview at Fountain Valley Golf Club in Farmington. It was the second of four conference tournaments, with Eastview winning the first April 24 at Crystal Lake in Lakeville.

    Lakeville South senior Jovie Ordal and Apple Valley senior Avary Johnson were co-medalists. Both shot 75 on the 5,852-yard layout and were the only players below 80. Each player made four birdies.

    Placing third individually was Farmington ninth-grader Jayla Mao, who shot 81 and led the Tigers to the team victory. Also counting toward Farmington’s team total of 360 were ninth-grader Scarlett Hedrick (92), senior Kailey Watson (93) and junior Annika Reuss (94).

    Eastview finished at 366, with junior Addison Schafer leading the Lightning with an 89. Other counting scores were turned in by Megan Young (90), Serafina Swanson (90) and Anna Pitts (97), all seniors.

    Apple Valley was third, 11 strokes behind Farmington and five behind Eastview. In addition to Johnson’s 75, a 97 by sophomore Eleanor Carlson, a 98 by ninth-grader Jordyn Thies and a 101 by ninth-grader Leila Korkowski counted for the Eagles.

    Lakeville North seventh-grader Cindy Kraus shot 89 to lead the Panthers to fourth place in the team standings with 377. One stroke behind the Panthers were Rosemount and Eagan, which tied for fifth. Ninth-grader Alyssa Fitzgerald led Rosemount with an 88. Eagan junior Bridget Behles shot 87, leading her team and placing fourth overall.

    Lakeville South placed seventh at 384. Burnsville came in ninth, with Bailey Tilley’s 91 the Blaze’s best individual score.

    Johnson of Apple Valley shot 3-over 74 and was medalist in the first conference tournament April 24 at Crystal Lake. She was two strokes ahead of Eastview’s Young and three in front of Ordal of Lakeville South.

    Eastview came in 33 strokes ahead of Rosemount to win the team competition at Crystal Lake. Swanson and Schafer both shot 81 and Pitts had 92.

    This week, Eastview was 10th in the Minnesota Golf Association all-class high school golf rankings and was the highest-ranked South Suburban Conference team. Ordal was seventh and Johnson 25th in the individual rankings.

    The third regular-season SSC tournament is Monday, May 6, at Stonebrooke Golf Club in Shakopee, with the fourth scheduled May 21 at The Wilds in Prior Lake.
