NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – In honor of the school’s return to session, Verizon stores across the country are offering free backpacks to students, including here in New Mexico. Round Room LLC, a Verizon-authorized retailer, is giving away $3 million worth of backpacks at the 12th Annual “School Rocks Backpack Giveaway” this Sunday.

Albuquerque Public Schools’ graduation rate increases slightly

The company says they hope to alleviate some of the costs of going back to school, noting that on average, a family spends just shy of $900 on school-related items every year. The event will be held at three different locations in Gallup and Farmington, with both Gallup locations offering clear backpacks as a response to the increase in gun violence in schools.

The events start at 1:00 p.m. until supplies last.
