Discount department store chain Ross Stores plans to open its first locations on Long Island.

The Dublin, Calif.-based retailer is expected to open four stores at shopping centers in Hempstead, Islandia, Bohemia and Farmingville, according to real estate industry sources.

The Long Island stores, which will range from about 19,000 to 25,000 square feet in size, are expected to open next spring. Sources say Ross Stores are eyeing spaces at Hempstead Village Commons at 340 Peninsula Blvd. in Hempstead; Islandia Shopping Center at 1750 Veterans Memorial Highway in Islandia; Sayville Plaza at 5151 Sunrise Highway in Bohemia; and Expressway Plaza at2280-2350 N. Ocean Ave. in Farmingville.

Ross offers name brand and designer apparel, accessories, footwear and home fashions at savings of 20% to 60% off department and specialty store regular prices, according to the company.

As one of the nation’s largest off-price retail chains, Ross Stores, which operates as Ross Dress for Less, has 1,775 stores in 43 states, Washington D.C. and Guam. Ross Stores also operates 352 dd’s Discounts stores in 22 states. The publicly traded company reported 2023 revenues of $20.4 billion.

In March, the company announced it was opening 75 new Ross Dress for Less locations and 15 dd’s Discounts stores in 2024 as part of its continued expansion.

“As we look out over the long term, we remain confident that Ross can grow to 2,900 locations and dd's Discounts can become a chain of 700 stores given consumers' ongoing focus on value and convenience," Gregg McGillis, group executive vice president for property development, said in a company statement.

A spokesperson for Ross Stores has yet to respond to a request for comment on its Long Island roll out.

Russel Helbling and Brian Katz of Katz & Associates represent Ross Stores on Long Island and the widerNew York metropolitan area. The brokers declined to comment.

Ross Stores coming to Long Island follows the trend of other discount retailers expanding here recently. Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, a fast-growing chain of discount merchandise, opened its first Long Island location in a 32,000-square-foot space at Selden Plaza in November and the company plans to open a second Long Island store at Riverhead Plaza.
