The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office said no foul play is suspected in the death of a missing Farmville man whose body was found in a residence outside of town on May 16, although a woman has been charged with concealing his death.

An autopsy showed no obvious signs of foul play in the death of Bobby Barnes, the agency reported Tuesday. Firtjer determination regarding the cause of death is awaiting toxicology results.

Deputies responded at 10:24 a.m. on May 16 to 5226 U.S. 258 after a man’s body was found in the residence. The area is between Stantonsburg Road and I-587.

On May 17 the sheriff’s office confirmed the dead man was Barnes, who was reported missing to the Farmville Police Department.

Farmville police said that Barnes had been missing since the morning of May 9 and was last seen driving a green Ford Escape with a North Carolina license plate. It was possible he was traveling to Greenville, the department said.

On May 16, the sheriff’s office arrested Kristy Johnson Gray, 45, and charged her with felony concealing a death, larceny of motor vehicle and financial card theft. Gray’s address is the U.S. 258 residence.

The sheriff’s office said Gray took action to conceal that Barnes had died. She also used his vehicle and financial cards after he was dead.

Gray was booked into the Pitt County Detention Center under a $200,000 secured bond.
