Are you curious about the natural world around you? If you want to make a difference for Virginia’s environment, the Virginia Master Naturalists need volunteers. The Central Piedmont chapter is now recruiting for its Naturalist Basic Training Course, which begins in September.

Master Naturalists engage in a wide variety of educational, citizen science or stewardship activities. Members choose activities of interest to them to support local, state, regional and national agencies with their volunteer service.

The Central Piedmont chapter members are active monitoring the health of the Appomattox River and nearby vernal pools, participating in surveys of area bird populations, monitoring the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trails in our area, partnering with Saylor’s Creek and Bear Creek Lake State Park to engage youth with outdoor education, keeping watersheds and roadways clean and much more.

Interested in learning more about the naturalist group?  There will be a meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15 in the Barbara Rose Johns Farmville-PE Community Library for an overview of the organization, to meet members and to share your interests. Light refreshments will be offered. RSVP to joajonz1@gmail.com.
