The Herald Church and Community Events calendar is published each Friday. Items must be submitted by 10 a.m. Monday for that Friday’s calendar. Events should be emailed to CommunityCalendar@FarmvilleHerald.com.

MAY 30

BIBLE STUDY — New Store Baptist Church, located at 9637 Francisco Road in Farmville, will hold a six-week Bible Study labeled “Learning From the Parables of Jesus”. The class will meet each Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., continuing on May 30. Each Thursday, the class will study one of the parables Jesus taught and seek to understand what He was trying to teach.

TRIVIA — Three Roads Brewing, located at 312 W. Third Street in Farmville, will host trivia on Thursday, May 30, beginning at 7 p.m.

MAY 31

STROKE SUPPORT GROUP — The Longwood University Stroke Support Group will meet on Friday, May 31. The meeting runs from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Woodland Community Center, located at 2003 Cobb Street in Farmville. Members of the community, stroke survivors and caregivers are welcome.

JUNE 1

CRAFT AND YARD SALE — Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, will host a Craft, Vendor and Yard Sale on Saturday, June 1. It’ll run from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with outdoor spaces going for $10 and indoor spaces for $15. Those interested can contact Mary Ann Emery at 804-547-9669 to reserve a spot.

YARD SALE — St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 1301 Milnwood Road in Farmville, will hold a yard sale on Saturday, June 1. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with proceeds going to church and local charities.

END OF YEAR CELEBRATION — New Store Baptist Church will hold their annual End of School Year Community Celebration on Saturday, June 1. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 8123 Crumptown Road in Farmville. There will be games, cookout food, face painting and crafts.

SPRING FISH FRY — The Ladies Royalty of Farmville will reschedule their Spring Fish Fry for Saturday, June 1, beginning at 11 a.m. It will be held at the Masonic Lodge, located at 415 Griffin Boulevard in Farmville, with a menu including fish, fries and a drink for $10. FREE LOCAL MUSIC — Sandy River Distillery, located at 147 Monroe Church Road in Rice, will host musician Jodi Williams on Saturday, June 1. The event will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

JUNE 2

CHILDREN/YOUTH DAY — High Bridge Baptist Church will celebrate Children/Youth Day on Sunday, June 2 during the 10 a.m. service.

CHILDREN’S DAY — Midway’s Youth and Young Adult Ministry will celebrate Children’s Day on Sunday, June 2, during the 11 a.m. worship service. The theme is “The Ark of Safety” and after the service there will be an afternoon of food, fun and fellowship. The church is located at 837 Guinea Road in Farmville.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS DAY — New Witt Baptist Church will hold Family & Friends Day on Sunday, June 2 at 3 p.m. Special guests for this service include the Traveling Angels and the New Bethel Community Choir in concert.

PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY — First Liberty Baptist Church in Dillwyn will hold a pastoral anniversary program on Sunday, June 2 at 3 p.m.

JUNE 3

ICE CREAM SOCIAL — The Curdsville Community Center will host an Ice Cream Social on Monday, June 3, after a potluck supper. Everything begins at 6 p.m. Everyone will create their own sundaes with a variety of ice cream and toppings, with activities to encourage conversation and connections. The Curdsville Community Center is located at 122 School Road in Dillwyn, just off Route 15.

DEMOCRATIC MEETING — The Prince Edward Democratic Committee will combine the May and June meetings. The group will meet on Monday, June 3, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Extension Office, located at 100 Dominion Drive in Farmville.

JUNE 5

ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT GROUP — The Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group will meet on Wednesday, June 5 from 2 to 3 p.m. That’ll take place at St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 1301 Milnwood Road in Farmville.

DEACONS AND TRUSTEES MEET — The Cumberland Deacons and Trustees Conference will hold its quarterly meeting at Little Fork Baptist Church on Thursday, June 5, beginning at 7 p.m.

TRIVIA — Three Roads Brewing, located at 312 W. Third Street in Farmville, will host trivia on Thursday, June 5, beginning at 7 p.m.

JUNE 7

FREE LOCAL MUSIC — Sandy River Distillery, located at 147 Monroe Church Road in Rice, will host musician Chaz Knapp on Saturday, June 7. The event will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL — The Curdsville Community Center will host an ice cream social on Monday, June 7, beginning at 6 p.m. Attendees will create their own sundaes with a variety of toppings, before taking part in different activities. The Center is located at 122 School Road in Dillwyn.

JUNE 8

1864 ELECTION PROJECT — Sailor’s Creek State Park, located at 6541 Saylers Creek Road in Rice, will host a presentation on the 1864 presidential campaign, with President Abe Lincoln facing off against Gen. George B. McClellan. There will be a deep dive on the candidates and their race for the presidency. The event will be at the visitor center and run from 2 to 3 p.m.

JUNE 15

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL — Mt. Zion Baptist Church, located at 6277 Cartersville Road in New Canton, will have its Vacation Bible School on Saturday, June 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The theme this year is “Gone Fishing”.

JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION — High Bridge Baptist Church will celebrate Juneteenth on Saturday, June 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be gospel music, inspirational poetry, games, a bounce house, cotton candy, popcorn, sports, hot dogs, burgers and drinks.

JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION — The Mary E. Branch Heritage Center will host their Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The center is located at 632 South Main Street and the event will include food, music, a kids zone, vendors and valuable information for the community. People are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to support the FACES food pantry.

JUNETEENTH FESTIVAL -— The Cumberland County NAACP will present its Juneteenth Festival on Saturday, June 15 from noon to 6 p.m. That’ll take place at the Bright Hope Center.

JUNE 16

FATHER’S DAY PROGRAM — High Bridge Baptist Church will hold its annual Father’s Day program on Sunday, June 16, during the 10 a.m. service. The guest preacher will be Rev. Kevin Callahan.

MEN’S DAY -— Mercy Seat Baptist Church will be observing Men’s Day on Sunday, June 16 at 3 p.m. The musical guests will be the New Beginning Singers.

JUNE 17

NAACP MEETING — The Prince Edward branch of the NAACP will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 17 at the Moton Museum in Farmville. The speaker will be Kim Allen, Director of Social Services for Prince Edward County.

JUNE 20

PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT — The Friends of Twin Lakes State Park will sponsor a Photo Scavenger Hunt on Thursday, June 20, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the park. A list of items to photograph will be available at Shelter 1 in the Day Use section of the park. Prizes will be awarded based on the number of items photographed. The event is free and Twin Lakes is located at 788 Twin Lakes Road in Green Bay.

FRIENDS OF TWIN LAKES MEET — The next meeting of the Friends of Twin Lakes State Park will be held on Thursday, June 20 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Shelter 1 in the park. New members and interested people are welcome to attend. Twin Lakes State Park is located at 788 Lakes Road in Green Bay.

JUNE 22

FISH FRY — The Piedmont Area Veterans Council will hold a fish fry on Saturday, June 22 from noon to 4 p.m. The event will be held at 2650 West Third Street, at a cost of $15 per plate. A plate includes fish, sides and drink. For tickets, call the PAVC office at 434-392-4142.

CLASS REUNION — The Prince Edward High Class of 2004 will hold its 20th Class Reunion on June 22, beginning at 4 p.m. In order to get the location and other details, RSVP to peclassof2004@gmail.com. This will be a field day and cookout.

JULY 7-11

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL — The Farmville United Methodist Church will hold Vacation Bible School for children ages five to 11 from July 7 to July 11. “Camp Firelight” as this year’s event will be called, is a five-evening summer camp adventure, running from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. each night, with dinner included. SUNDAY CHURCH SERVICES — The congregations of Cumberland and Guinea Presbyterian Churches hold services every Sunday. The Guinea service is at 10 a.m. at the church, located at 1176 Guinea Road in Farmville. The Cumberland service is held at 1835 Cumberland Road in Farmville, beginning every Sunday at 11:15 a.m.

TRIUMPH BAPTIST CHURCH — Triumph Baptist Church, located at 2756 Darlington Heights Road in Prince Edward County, welcomes everyone to services each Sunday. EXERCISE CLASS — Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, holds an exercise class every Monday and Thursday at 9 a.m. It’s free and all are welcome to attend.

HOMESCHOOL SUPPORT GROUP — Maysville Baptist Church, located at 13327 W. James Anderson Highway in Buckingham Courthouse, hosts a Homeschool Support Group the first Thursday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The purpose of this group is to provide support and connection for homeschooling families in the area. ALZHEIMER’S CAREGIVER SUPPORT — An Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group will meet on the first Wednesday of each month at St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 1301 Milnwood Avenue in Farmville. NEW BETHEL BAPTIST CHURCH — New Bethel Baptist Church in Meherrin will hold worship services on the first and third Sundays of the month at 10:45 a.m. Sunday School will be held every Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

HERITAGE BAPTIST CHURCH — Heritage Baptist Church, located at 700 Milnwood Road in Farmville holds services each Sunday morning, with Sunday School at 10 a.m. and Worship Service at 11 a.m. A fellowship with donuts and coffee is held from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. All are welcome to attend.

SOUP FOR THE SOUL — Cumberland Presbyterian Church will hold “Soup for the Soul” the third Tuesday of every month, beginning at 10 a.m. Church members prepare soup to be taken out to those who need a visit. FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH FARMVILLE — First Baptist Church located at the corner of Main and Fourth Streets in Farmville hosts Sunday worship at 11 a.m. each Sunday. The Rev. Dr. James P. Ashton leads the services. At this time, face masks and social distancing are required inside of the sanctuary.

DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE MEETING — The Buckingham County Democratic Committee meets at 6 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Agricultural Building in Buckingham County. GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP — Farmville United Methodist Church (FUMC) is offering a Grief Support Group for those who have suffered recent losses or losses long ago. This is an ecumenical group welcoming anyone who has experienced a loss. The group meets at 2 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at FUMC, 212 High St. Participation in the discussion while attending the sessions is optional. CHURCH SERVICES — Sharon Baptist Church in Cumberland offers three options to worship on Sundays: inside service at 10 a.m., masks are optional; 10 a.m. radio parking lot service on 89.7 FM. and YouTube service later Sunday afternoon.

FARMVILLE BAPTIST CHURCH — Farmville Baptist Church at 132 N. Main St. holds Bible study at 9:45 a.m. every Sunday, followed at 11 a.m. by worship. FARMVILLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH — Farmville Presbyterian Church at 200 West Third St. holds in-service worship at 11 a.m. every Sunday with Rev. Dr. Pete Smith. FOOD DISTRIBUTION — Delma’s Pantry in Cumberland County will have curbside food distribution at Delma’s Pantry the second, third and fourth Fridays of the month at 9:30 a.m. each Friday. Senior boxes will be given out at the distributions.

VETERANS SERVICES — The American Legion Accredited Veterans Service Officers are available to see veterans and their family members at the Farmville VFW from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays. Veteran Service Officers may be reached at (434) 414-6504.

OLD GREEN BAPTIST — Old Green Baptist Church holds outdoor and indoor worship services at 11 a.m. the second and fourth Sundays of the month until further notice. The Rev. Samuel F. Trent is the pastor.

MEMOIR WRITING GROUP – The group, which meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, encourages new people to join. The meetings take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the Farmville Library’s main meeting room. Call Joan at (434)-607-1576 for more information.
