Earlier this month, the Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District paid tribute to a local farmer. Daniel E. Glenn, owner and operator of Glenn View Farm, was given the Clean Water Farm Award.

The Clean Water Farm Award is a part of the Clean Water Farm Program, sponsored by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. Farmers who are recognized with this award take part in preserving water quality through conservation practices on their land enhancing the lives of countless individuals and wildlife across Virginia.

Glenn View Farm, established in 1863, was a traditional farm of the era, raising tobacco, grain, and cattle. Following the tobacco buyout in 2016, Daniel transitioned to a cow/calf operation. He then began to purchase and lease additional land and brought his son Edward on board as the operation expanded to include 2,658 acres, 350 beef cows and 15 bulls. Daniel and Edward have worked closely with the Natural Resources Conservation Service and Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District to exclude cattle from 22,409 feet (4.25 miles) of stream bank and to install 53 acres of riparian buffers. Daniel and Edward have placed 1,000 acres in Conservation Easements with the Virginia Outdoors Foundation and have both served on the Farm Service Agency County Committee as elected members.
