The town is taking a step forward. That’s what Farmville council members see. They point to financial improvement, which earned the town a second national award this year. They also look at ongoing projects, such as the energy efficiency work and plans to improve the downtown district. In response to the improvements, the council rewarded Town Manager Scott Davis with a pay raise of $5,000. With the bump, Davis will make $155,000 this year.

Davis was hired Feb. 21, 2020 at a salary of $120,000. He took over from Gerry Spates, who had held the position for 41 years before retiring in August 2019. Davis, who had been the assistant town manager since October 2017, took over on an interim basis after Spates retired, before getting the full job in 2020. Farmville council members unanimously signed off on the pay raise during their Wednesday, July 10 meeting, with Mayor Brian Vincent telling him this was a thank you for hard work.

“This is a recognition of the work and the trust that this council approves and appreciates,” Vincent told Davis at the meeting. “It is also a recognition that you are in a profession that carries a certain salary expectation. We don’t want to lose you, so we’re making sure you feel love.”

After the unanimous vote, Davis thanked the board and mayor for their trust in him.

“I appreciate it and look forward to continuing to work with you all,” Davis said.
