Tanner Franklin commits to Vols, returns to Tennessee
Tennessee and head coach Tony Vitello received a commitment to the Vols’ program on Tuesday. Kennesaw State sophomore pitcher Tanner Franklin committed to Tennessee. “Extremely blessed for this new opportunity,” Franklin announced. “Thank you Lord. Go Vols! Psalms 24:17” The 6-foot-5, 240-pound Franklin (6-1) appeared in 34 games, including three starts, across the 2023-24 seasons at Kennesaw State. He recorded 61 strikeouts, a 6.34 ERA and five saves in 38.1 innings pitched. Franklin went to Kennesaw State from Jefferson County High School in Dandridge, Tennessee. Tennessee won the national championship and the Southeastern Conference regular-season and tournament titles in 2024. 2025 will be the eighth season for Tennessee under Vitello. Dean Curley Shining For USA Collegiate National Team
Tennessee infielder Dean Curley is playing his summer baseball with the USA Collegiate National Team in a number of intrasquad scrimmages and games in North Carolina. The USA Collegiate National Team has played in two instrasquad scrimmages and three games against the Chinese Taipei team. Curley played in one of the two instrasquad scrimmages and has started in all three games against the Chinese Taipei team.
Bolivar Grad Wins Fulbright Award
Steve Mahometano of Bolivar is one of eleven UT-Knoxville students who have been offered Fulbright scholarships for the 2024-25 academic year. Four students were named alternates. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is one of the most prestigious international exchange programs in the world. Established in 1946, it offers opportunities to passionate and accomplished graduating college seniors, graduate students and young professionals in partnership with more than 140 countries worldwide. The program provides awards to about 8,000 students, scholars, teachers, artists and professionals each year, giving them the opportunity to expand their perspectives through academic and professional advancement and cross-cultural dialogue. As they carry out their grant-funded work, students work with, live with and learn from the people of their assigned host country. Mahometano graduated in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in honors neuroscience and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. He will be traveling to Taiwan to work as an English teaching assistant. “As a first-generation immigrant from Manila, Philippines, I am grateful to have benefited from language-cultural programs such as the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Program before immigrating to the U.S. as a child,” said Mahometano. “I am pursuing the Taiwan ETA Program because it furthers my goal of refining my interdisciplinary and multicultural competencies and because I want to engage with neuroscience, psychology and medicine in a global context.”

Tennessee football targets in 2025 class who could announce decisions in July
Coming off a busy month of June that resulted in Tennessee football picking up a half-dozen commitments for the 2025 class, the Vols are still battling for a number of other players who are closing in on decisions. Many of them could be ready to announce commitments sometime this month.
