The Stone House Steakhouse – Montrose, CO

After a long day of hiking at the end of a long road trip, I was ready for a real sit day meal. While I usually look for the world of diners and cafe’s, something drew me in with The Stone House steakhouse in Montrose. In fact, the outside looks like something you find in old world fantasy novels. Instead of the modern sleek and mechanical lines, the Stone House has more of a warm and inviting feel like you are walking into an old home to enjoy a meal. It was so inviting…I forgot to take a picture of it. I guess the house just drew me in!

The Food!

Now to the important part…The Food! While the exterior of a place can be really nice, as a food reviewer, I have to judge it on the food. The Stone House has an extensive menu that includes separate lunch offerings. The menu includes steak and seafood, salads, burgers, appetizers. There really is something for just about everyone available. Even though I was there for lunch, I decided to order off the dinner menu with a Ribeye and sides.

I started out with the house side salad. This was really good. A fresh spring mix with large slices of cucumbers and large chunks of carrots and some cherry tomatoes. All of the veggies tasted really fresh and there was plenty of dressing including. Even enough left over to dip my bread in.

Ribeye, sauteed mushrooms, rice pilaf, mixed veggies

For the main meal, I went with one of my favorites, a ribeye topped with sauteed mushrooms. This came with rice pilaf and mixed vegetables on the side. The steak had really nice marbling and was a nice cut. It was cooked really well and was juicy. The seasoning was subtle and let the flavor of the meat do most of the work.

The rice pilaf was seasoned really nicely and I enjoyed it. The veggies were also very fresh. There were lots of green beans in the mix and they were still crips which I like. I did feel like the sauteed mushrooms were a little dry and could have used a bit of sauce on them but overall this was a fantastic meal.

After hearing that the Stone House was the best steak place in Montrose I had to put them to the test. After eating the steak, I have to say they made a very good argument for the title. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the service was really good and the food was extremely enjoyable. If you find yourself in Montrose, give The Stone House a shot!

Finding The Stone House Steakhouse in Montrose, Co

The Stone House is located at 1415 Hawk Pkwy in Montrose, Colorado. It is pretty easily recognized from the stone structure. There is a parking lot available. The Stone House is open Monday – Saturday 11am – 9pm. And on Sundays it is open 9am-2pm and reopens from 4pm – 9pm. Reservations are accepted.
