Wawa offering free coffee for teachers in these states
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Teachers in six states can get free coffee at Wawa for a limited period of time starting on Monday, Sept. 2, the company announced.As students head back to school, educators in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and Washington D.C. can take advantage of this "Cheers to Classrooms" deal until Sept. 15The deal applies to school staff as well. All the qualifying freebie-receiver has to do is tell the cashier they're a member of a local school system.The offer can only be claimed in Wawa stores and is not available on the app or through delivery services."We hope this small gesture shows our deep appreciation for everything educators and school staff do for children in the community," Wawa's Senior Director of Store Operations, Dave Simonettis said in a news release.Wawa gave this deal to teachers in Alabama and Florida in August.

It was almost exactly four years ago that local sausage chain HalfSmoke had announced plans to open a Rockville location at 36-A Maryland Avenue. During the long period of befuddled anticipation, a HalfSmoke kiosk came and went at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. But the Rockville HalfSmoke never came to pass.
Alexandria City Council Seeks Public Comment Regarding Airbnb Regulations
ALEXANDRIA, VA-The City of Alexandria has completed an evaluation on the affect of short-term residential rentals (aka Airbnbs). The study focused on five areas: Number of Units, Property Value Impacts, Tax Revenue, Complaints, and Benefits. Interestingly, it found there would be minimal impact on current property values because of the low number of current short-term rentals. Yet, the Department of Planning and Zoning, which conducted the study, advised continued monitoring. The study also pointed out that in Fiscal Year 2023, the city generated $3.5 milion in tax revenue, more than the state, which collected $100,000 less.
