Porch pirating, illegal weapons and drugs involved in four arrests last week
An alleged porch pirate was among those taken into custody during the past week by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. According to an FCSO spokesman, deputies went to the Marnelle mobile home park on Hwy. 54 the evening of July 7, where they spoke to a victim who reported having packages stolen off her front porch. They looked at video evidence and identified one of the victim’s neighbors as the perpetrator.
Second Annual ‘Witches Ride’ Set Oct. 27
The Kiwanis Club of Fayette County is preparing for its second annual “Witches Ride” in Fayetteville, scheduled for 3 p.m. on Oct. 27. The fundraiser was designed by club member Cheryl Fairchild, who uses the Halloween theme of witches and warlocks to motivate participants to dress and decorate their bikes as such. Each rider donates money to take part in the 4.5-mile jaunt, and competitions are held to award the best costume and bike decorations.
Driver fleeing police crashes near creek at Old Mill, walks away into jail cell
A speeder led local police on a high-speed chase and wrecked his car before miraculously walking away, although he walked right into a jail cell. Officers attempted a June 29 traffic stop for speeding but the suspect refused to cooperate, according to Fayetteville Police Department spokesman. He fled west on Hwy. 54 toward Peachtree City, reaching speeds of well over 100 miles per hour.
