Central Texas travelers are warned Beryl may impact flights, road trips
AUSTIN, Texas — Central Texas is being spared the brunt of Beryl, but anyone traveling east toward Houston should review their options this Monday morning. You only have to travel as far east as Fayette County to feel the impact of Beryl. The National Weather Service has the area under a tropical storm warning for expected peak winds of "15-25 mph with gusts to 45 mph." Between the high winds and expected heavy rains, drivers are being warned to watch for water and debris on the roadways.
One Injured As Fire Breaks Out At Oil Well Site
An oil well tank caught fire on Zapalac Rd. near Ellinger Friday afternoon, July 5. Ellinger Volunteer Fire Department got the call around 2 p.m Friday They called La Grange Volunteer Fire Department for assistance. Fayette County EMS and Fayette County Sheriff’s Office also responded. The plume of black smoke could be seen from La Grange.

Fayette County Commissioners appointed Fritz Lobpries as interim county judge, effective July 15, following the resignation of County Judge David Murray. To accept the appointment, Mr. Lobpries would resign as county school superintendent, a post he had held since 1951 that the Texas Legislature had abolished effective year-end 1974. Mr. Lobpries would serve as interim judge until he officially took office on Jan. 1, 1975. Mr. Murray said he resigned to go into other work.
Beryl Slides East, Skirting Fayette
Hurricane Beryl, which slammed parts of the Caribbean and Mexico finally made landfall in Texas Monday morning as a Category One storm. The first bands of the storm brought some light rain to Fayette County Sunday afternoon but by Monday morning significant rainfall was mostly east of La Grange. Parts of northeastern Fayette County did get more substantial rain and wind. The Houston area was hit hard.
