Hope for the Hospital
On June 21, the Record reported on the efforts of St. Mark’s Hospital’s Board and Progressive Health Group (PHG) of Oxford, Mississippi to reopen the hospital as a rural emergency hospital (REH). The Board stated that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) needs to accept the newly proposed terms to purchase the assets securing St. Mark’s note by La Grange Hospital Holding, LLC, the company formed by PHG to own and operate the hospital. The hospital also needs to be relicensed by the State of Texas and obtain authorization from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Fiber Optic Cut Disrupts Phone and Internet Service - Again
Lots of La Grange area residents lost phone services on Wednesday morning, June 26. The disruption was due to a cut fiber optic line belonging to Frontier Communications. It was the third time in two weeks for a fiber optic line cut to sever communications in the County. Fayette County 911 dispatchers had to reroute calls to Lee County during the outage, which lasted about four hours.

An Elgin man was arrested during the early morning hours on Sunday after shots were fired at an after party for a team of trail-riders. According to Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek, Deputies were dispatched to the 6000 Block of Munke Road around 1am for a report of shots fired.

Czech Heritage Society Holds Annual Piknik
The Fayette County Czech Heritage Society (CHS) met on Tuesday, June 11, in the Hanslik Hall at TCHCC in La Grange for its annual Piknik. Members and guests enjoyed visiting and singing Czech songs while Jimmy Fucik accompanied them on the accordion. A meal consisting of sausage wraps, sides, and desserts followed the entertainment.

On June 23 at around 1 a.m., deputies responded to the 6000 block of Munke Road near FM 3233 regarding shots fired at a large gathering following a trail ride by the Capital City Trail-Riders.
