FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One man has been sentenced in Fayette County for stabbing and killing a fellow inmate at the Mount Olive Correctional Center.

The sentencing was handed down by Circuit Judge Thomas H. Ewing on July 8, 2024.

Redman, who was already serving a 15-year to life sentence for a repeat offender conviction from Berkeley County, must serve his new sentence consecutively.

He will not be eligible for parole on the Fayette County conviction for at least ten years.

The incident leading to Redman’s conviction occurred on November 20, 2020, at the Mount Olive Correctional Center.

At approximately 8:45 PM, the West Virginia State Police received a report of a stabbing.

Investigators revealed that Redman had stabbed another inmate multiple times, leading to the victim’s death at Montgomery General Hospital later that evening.

Surveillance footage from the prison showed Redman seated at a card table when the victim approached and sat beside him.

Redman initially attempted to punch the victim, who then walked away to an upstairs hallway, followed by Redman.

Without provocation, Redman began stabbing the victim, as confirmed by the video evidence.

Redman then discarded an improvised weapon made of metal, which was later recovered by investigators and found to have the victim’s DNA on it.

The victim sustained four stab wounds and multiple abrasions and lacerations, with the autopsy confirming these wounds as the cause of death.

Following the attack, Redman admitted responsibility to correctional officers and confessed to the murder in a recorded phone call to a relative.

The case was investigated by the West Virginia State Police and prosecuted by Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Sarah F. Smith and Deputy Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Jennifer D. Crane.
