Bluefield man sentenced in Fayette County to 10 years for drug conspiracy

FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Bluefield man has been sentenced in Fayette County to 10 years for a felony drug conspiracy crime.

According to Fayette County Prosecuting Attorney Anthony Ciliberti, Cory L. Callen, 34, of Bluefield, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for conspiracy to possess and distribute fentanyl, oxymorphone, cocaine, and tramadol.

Circuit Judge Thomas H. Ewing delivered the sentence on Monday, July 8, 2024, after Callen pleaded guilty to the felony charge on April 9, 2024.

Callen will be eligible for parole after serving a minimum of two years and six months.

Callen’s co-conspirator, Deron A. Yarrell, who chose to go to trial, was convicted on all counts. Yarrell is scheduled to be sentenced on July 23, 2024.

The charges stem from an incident on February 26, 2023.

An Oak Hill Police Department officer, conducting traffic enforcement on U.S. Route 19, stopped a speeding Jeep driven by Callen.

The passenger, initially identified as “Allen Jackson,” was later revealed to be Yarrell, who had outstanding warrants in Tazewell, Virginia.

A search of the impounded vehicle uncovered over 400 pills, later identified as a mix of fentanyl and tramadol, 20 oxymorphone pills, one ounce of powder fentanyl, and one ounce of powder cocaine.

Callen faces additional felony charges, including a murder charge, in Mercer County.

Prosecuting Attorney Anthony Ciliberti, Jr., oversaw the case, with the Oak Hill Police Department conducting the investigation.
