FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — More residents and commercial customers are asked to conserve due to dry conditions and extreme heat.

Businesses and homes along the Highway 16 east corridor, East Huntsville Road, between Fayetteville and Elkins are being asked to adjust their water usage by the City of Fayetteville Utilities Department. This includes east of South Dead Horse Mountain Road and south of East Wyman Road.

Fayetteville’s water system is having to go through an increased demand for water, city officials say. This is causing reduced or no water pressure for some.

Officials have placed restrictions on yard and landscaping irrigation to certain days and times of day:

    • Even numbered addresses may irrigate between the hours of 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday
    • Odd-numbered addresses may irrigate between the hours of 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday

Officials said that the water system is being pushed to its limit

“City officials believe adjusting morning irrigation schedules to nighttime and restricting irrigation to specific days will assist in allowing the water system to recover,” the news release states.

To report a possible water leak, please call the City of Fayetteville at 479-575-8386 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or call 479-587-3555 after hours.
