The Olympics are underway in Paris, and Team USA is primed to add to its world-best total of 2,629 medals in the Summer Games. Among those athletes set to compete for the United States are a pair of Fayetteville natives.

Gray's Creek graduate Quanera Hayes and Jack Britt alum Capt. Samantha Sullivan will contend in Paris as members of the United States track and field and rugby sevens teams, respectively.

This is the second straight Summer Games appearance for Hayes, who finished seventh in the women's 400m in Tokyo in 2021 when the games were postponed by COVID-19. Sullivan, who won the Prusmack Award as the top college women's rugby sevens player as an attacker for Army West Point in 2019, is making her first Olympics appearance.

Another Fayetteville native, Terry Sanford alum Demetria Washington Davis , is also in Paris as a member of Team USA Track and Field's support staff. She's familiar with 2024 Olympics host city: It was the site of her World Championship gold medal with the United States' 4x400m relay team in 2003.
