Professor Coleen Edwards Leads New York Sea Grant Plankton Workshop for Teachers
Coleen Edwards, a faculty fellow in biology and environmental sciences at Niagara University, hosted a professional development workshop sponsored by the New York Sea Grant and the Center for Great Lakes Literacy. Twenty teachers and educators representing 17 school districts participated in the two-day workshop, which was held July 18-19, 2024, and focused on plankton, the organisms that form the base of the Great Lakes food web.
Tucker receives Creative Impact Fund award
Associate Professor Peter Tucker in the Department of Visual Arts and New Media has received a Creative Impact Fund award to support his artistic endeavors. Funding is made possible through Arts Services Inc.’s Creative Impact Fund, thanks to a New York State Senate Initiative supported by the NYS Legislature and the Office of the Governor, and administered by the New York State Council on the Arts.

Rome residents can soon apply for money from $1 million-plus recovery fund
Rome, N.Y. — Rome residents harmed by severe thunderstorms and a tornado that plowed through the city last week can soon apply to a recovery fund, officials said. About $175,000 has already been raised for the Rome Victims Recovery Fund, according to Anthony Picente Jr., the Oneida County executive. The county plans to contribute $1 million, he said.

Triple Shooting in Syracuse: Three Injured in Stone Court
(WNY News Now) – Syracuse, NY – On Sunday, July 21, 2024, at approximately 8:06 p.m., Syracuse Police Officers responded to multiple gunshots detected by ShotSpotter at Stone Court in the James Geddes Housing complex. Upon arrival, officers found two female victims with apparent gunshot wounds to their legs.
