    Fond du Lac/Oshkosh high school sports roundup: 8/26-8/31

    Here are the results from last week's (Aug. 26-31) high school volleyball, golf, soccer, tennis, and cross country events:

    GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

    Aug 27

    Oshkosh West opened the season with a second-place finish at the Fall Classic hosted by Hortonville, going 3-1 overall.

    The Wildcats opened with a solid 25-16, 25-17 win over Appleton West before going toe to toe with Fond du Lac in a 3-set battle that the Wildcats prevailed in (25-17, 22-25, 15-7). There was no rest for the team as they had to play West De Pere, eventually grinding out a 23-25, 25-22, 15-12 win.

    Finishing pool play in 1st, West met Kaukauna in the championship in what became a game of momentum, but the Wildcats fell short, falling 25-22, 16-25, 9-15.

    "It was still a great event for the team in these early season days, and everyone got their chance to get on the court, which is a testament to their depth and unity," said Wildcats coach William Brydon.

    Stat leaders were:

    Laconia defeated Markesan 25-9, 25-8, 25-12

    Mayville defeated Central Wisconsin Christian 16-25, 25-14, 18-16

    CWC coach Dan TenNapel: "Even though we had two close losses, I was really impressed with our girls tonight. We have made a lot of progress, and I saw a lot of encouraging things from the team."

    Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah defeated Winnebago Lutheran 22-25, 15-25

    Valley Christian defeated Winnebago Lutheran 25-17, 25-16

    Highlights included: Junior setter Sam Unger with six kills and nine assists, senior middle hitter Brooklyn Dins with four aces, and senior outside hitter Ellie Walta with five kills and 15 digs.

    Aug 30-31

    Crusader Invite (Central Wisconsin Christian)

    Living Word Lutheran was the champion of the 12-team Crusader invite. CWC took first place in the silver bracket, going 1-2 on Friday and 3-0 on Saturday.

    BOYS SOCCER

    Aug 27

    No. 10 (D1) Oshkosh West 3, DC Everest 0

    Colin Carns got the scoring started in the 51st minute on a penalty kick, Kaiden Kaufman followed with another goal a minute later, and George Miller put on the exclamation point in the 57th minute to secure the season-opening win for West.

    The Wildcats outshot DCE, 15-9 (13-6 shots on goal).

    In net, Owen Ervin had six saves for West while Aissen Witter had seven saves and Garrick Willard had three for the Evergreens.

    Oshkosh North 8, Green Bay East 2

    Senior Aimable Munyarungo and freshman M'Mbomba M'munga each scored a pair of goals to lead the Spartans in their season-opener.

    Seniors Shepherd Johnson and Ehebelo (Alex) Asende, along with juniors Yohana Bikyeombe and Gerome Mtabi, all each tacked on a goal for North. Asende added five assists and Mtabi also assisted on a pair of goals.

    Sophomore goaltender Lungwe Ramadhani had eight saves for the Spartans.

    Lourdes Academy/Valley Christian 6, Pacelli/Iola-Scandinavia 1

    Lourdes midfielder Isaak Rucinski netted five goals and Caden Anderson tacked on the sixth with two assists. Matthew Loker, Elijah Troiber, and Kaleb Richardson also each recorded an assist.

    Will Loker had three saves in net for the Knights.

    Winnebago Lutheran 0, Kettle Moraine Lutheran 0

    Vikings coach David Haag opened his 25th season (423-113-63) with a scoreless tie. Henry Brock had nine saves for the Vikings.

    Lakeside Lutheran 6, Central Wisconsin Christian 0

    The Crusaders got off just four shots in a rough season opener. Zachary Hoffmann and Samuel Van Den Berg split time in goal, saving nine and seven shots, respectively.

    West Bend West 4, North Fond du Lac/Oakfield/St. Mary's Springs 0

    Match details were not provided.

    Aug 29

    No. 10 (D1) Oshkosh West 5, Wisconsin Rapids 0

    George Miller scored the first goal for West in the 5th minute (assisted by Mason Strange).

    Goals were then scored by the Wildcats' Brandon Palomaki (assisted by Yosef Edsell) in the 18th minute, followed up by Collin Carns (assisted by Miller) in the 21st minute and both Carns and later Miller would each connect for two more goals in the 31st minute and 54th minute, respectively.

    Owen Ervin recorded four saves against the Raiders.

    Fond du Lac 3, Ripon 1

    Fondy's Alex Brunet finished a corner that was sent in by Trey Szatkowski for the first goal of the match. After the halftime break, Tate Winter found the net for the Cardinals with an assist from Jayden Pollock to make the score 2-0.

    Pollock then scored later in the half to make it 3-0 Fondy, but Ripon was able to get a goal back late in the game courtesy of Ray Ellis on the assist from Logan Pollesch.

    The Cardinals received a couple of great saves from goalkeeper Uriel Gomez and Cody Kamin had five saves for the Tigers.

    Lourdes Academy 8, Berlin 0

    Isaak Rucinski recorded a hat trick but also assisted on two goals for the Knights. Through Lourdes' first two contests, Rucinski (eight goals, three assists) has accounted for 11 of the 14 goals scored by the Knights.

    Kaleb Richardson chipped in with two goals and two assists, Isaiah Hyvonen scored twice, and Matthew Loker had a goal and an assist for Lourdes.

    Will Loker made one save in net for the Knights.

    Winnebago Lutheran 1, Clintonville 0

    Bryce Jahnke got the only goal of the game in the 54th minute. Henry Brock had four saves for WLA.

    "(Our) defense of Liam Clark, Carter Heinzelman, Max Hansmann and Joel Schwartz were stellar all night as they limited Clintonville to very few opportunities," said Coach Haag.

    Oshkosh North 2, West De Pere 0

    M'Mbomba M'munga scored the Spartans' first goal, assisted by Dino Lubunga and Gerome Mtabi. Then later in the first half, Shepherd Johnson netted North's second goal on another assist from Mtabi.

    Geteme Hakizimana recorded seven saves in net for the Spartans.

    Winneconne 7, Campbellsport 1

    The Wolves controlled the match for the majority of the first half, scoring five goals before intermission and tacking on a pair in the second.

    Ethan Albrecht scored the final two goals, the first of which assisted by Aiden Tate, and was preceded in order by Sawyer Krueger (assisted by Carter Blaha), Malik Jenns, Trey Lemke, Tate (assisted by Lemke), and Blaha (assisted by Luke Fuller).

    After the Cougars struggled to get going, down 7-0, the Campbellsport boys settled down a few minutes into the second half and were able to put more shots on goal, controlling the tempo during the second half.

    The Cougars were only able to convert one goal, scored by senior Maverick Grahl on junior Harvey Buddenhagen's assist.

    Aug 30

    Central Wisconsin Christian 1, River Valley 0

    Jaden Oosterhouse scored the lone goal of the match on an assist from Ryer Greenfield.

    Samuel Van Den Berg recorded two saves in net and Zachary Hoffmann had one stop for the Crusaders.

    Columbus Catholic 4, Central Wisconsin Christian 0

    The Crusaders split a doubleheader, Friday, getting off only five shots in the second match.

    Zachary Hoffmann had two saves in net while Samuel Van Den Berg recorded one stop.

    Aug 31

    Central Wisconsin Christian 1, Waupun 1

    Dylan Buwalda scored unassisted for the Crusaders and Cole Bartlett scored off an assist from Griffon Walker for the Warriors.

    Samuel Van Den Berg allowed the lone goal for Waupun, saving three shots in net, while Zachary Hoffmann saved two shots for CWC. Jonas Buchholz had five saves for the Warriors.

    Aug 26

    Bay Conference Meet #4

    No. 10 (D2) Winneconne finished 3rd as a team (204) at Golden Sands behind Seymour (177) and Shawano (192).

    Kaukauna 171, Oshkosh West 243 at Countryside GC (par 36)

    • Kennedy Footit and Hailey Hammen shot a 55 and 57 to lead West.

    No. 10 (D2) Winneconne finished 5th as a team (238) at Cherry Hills.

    • Faubel shot a 54 and Syd Retzlaff followed with a 55 to lead Fondy.
    • Maci McNichols (41) and Tiamarie Diamond (44) led Hortonville.

    • Zuehlke (50) and Buelow (56) led Fondy.
    • Lydia Barry (44) and Anna Blair (49) led Appleton West.
